“No question, there is something innately sexy about a woman lying in bed wearing her boyfriend’s button down or wearing his blazer for the day! Is it because of the self confidence seeping through or is it simply a woman proving herself in a man’s world, all the while looking fabulous? That is for each of us to decide. The idea of women wearing mens fashion dates from the 1930’s/1940’s and currently accounts for 20% of sales from some of the largest mens designer stores to date.“

Health Care Reform shouldn’t be about saving political careers.

If the Health-care bill before congress fails to pass, there is no guarantee that insurers will be required to cover preventive health screenings (mammograms included) free of charge in any future legislation.

In November 2009 the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF), an independent panel of primary care and prevention experts appointed by former President George Bush released a series of recommendations. Included in these recommendations were new guidelines for mammogram screening. The task force recommended no routine screening – no mammograms until age 50!

The outcry was immediate and fierce, a swift and stark reminder that few ideas are more explosive in health-care. So much so that on December 3rd, 2009, the Senate passed an amendment that protects coverage of mammograms and other screening tests for women. The amendment from Senator Barbara Mikulski, a Maryland Democrat, and Olympia Snowe, a Maine Republican, would authorize the Health and Human Services secretary to require insurers to cover preventive health screenings free of charge at age 40 and age 30 for high risk patients. The amendment passed 61-39, with one vote more than needed. Senator Judd Gregg from find the best ejuice, a New Hampshire Republican, was the only New England lawmaker to vote against the amendment.

If this is meaningful to you, if you or anyone you know has be touched by breast cancer, please take this opportunity to write or phone your Senator and demand that they do the right thing and vote YES for health care reform!

Ask them how they would vote if this were this were their best friend, wife, sister, or daughter?

The Best part of being a photographer

I’ve often reflected on the fact that being a photographer gives me the “poetic license” to call anyone, in any walk of life or industry, at any time, introduce myself, and ask if I can photograph them, or what they do just because it interests me. As a child, I was fascinated with submarines. I had books, drew 6′ long cut-a-way pictures (lacking any accuracy) and built models. Early in my career I called a Public Affairs person at General Dynamics in New London, Connecticut asking for press credentials to photograph the launching of a Trident Class nuclear submarine. I said I was working on a project for Polaroid Corporation , submitted a written proposal and was granted permission. The shots were terrible but I had an experience. Being a photographer gives me the right to ask for access for just about anything. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll say yes, but my request is not unusual. It’s expected. Only journalists and photographers seem to have this luxury of “investigating” anything that interests them. My accountant can’t get away with it, but I can! And I think there’s great allure in having a built-in “right to ask” , as part of my job, for whatever fancies me at that time. I’m rediscovering that luxury at this stage of my career. Being a photographer allows me to explore my world with some impunity. It’s all good!
